Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in 882 Days
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The Russian, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term coach Cervara.
Currently working with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.
This marks his initial trophy since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.
Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 victories at 21 various events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.
Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.
But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.
Moutet rescued four early-game break points in a close final set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
